Winona Ryder (born Winona Laura Hornowitz) was born in Winona Minnesota. Parents of Winona Ryder chose her name after her hometown. Both her father Michel Horowitz, and mother Cynthia Palmer are authors and editors. Ryder is a Jewish. Ryder believes that her father came from a Jewish background. The actress has a younger brother Uria as well as two half siblings Jubal and Sunyata. Ryder and her family relocated to Mendocino County in California in the year 2000, when Ryder was just seven. There they didn't have electricity. Ryder, who loved reading aged 12 years old, became a reader because Ryder was not able to access television. Ryder started taking classes in acting in the American Conservatory Theatre in 1983, when she was 12 years old. Her first role was a success on the big screen in 1986 aged 15 years old. older.
